First Letter

Okay so my little brother...well let's be honest he is by no means smaller than me but he is younger....left for his mission on October 13th. I was so excited this past Tuesday when I recieved my first piece of mail from him. I have in fact received 2 emails which has been wonderful but his girlfriend has been mailed 3 letters! Yes I know 3! I will be the one to for sure wait for him until he comes back and I have even hung out with her to be nice since he has been gone but she is the one to have 3 letters! Okay so mine was just a postcard but it was super sweet. Plus last week I was having a hard time dealing with friends. To me being married is the greatest thing ever and has been such a blessing. Two of my closest friends have completely disowned me since the wedding which for some reason I took a bit hard at first. One because I chose to spend time on a weekend trip that we had been planning for 2 moths with Ben 3 days before he was leaving on his mission and by doing so I missed her bridal shower. The other well I don't really know...we've been friends for 19 years and then after the wedding she refused to talk to me. I mean really completely ignored all of my attempts even when I showed up with a boquet of flowers for her birthday. Well Ben had the nicest things to say and really cheered me up. I knew my husband would have nice words to say because he is my husband and that is what he does but hearing it from my brother who is known to be very blunt in all situation was comforting. I figured if I had been in the wrong he would have called me out for it but instead he had comforting words which was just what I had needed. I am so happy for him. He is loving his area, he loves his trainer, and
thinks everything is amazing. Its been so nice to see the great blessings his misison has brought.

Psych Ward

Okay so I know I have a lot of catch up to do. We went on a cruise, to a few BYU games, and a pre-season Jazz game. Ben is leaving on his misison tomorrow and we've done a lot of fun things. I promise I'll catch up on all of that later (maybe fall break...maybe)
Right now I am in awe with how crazy my job has been getting. Yes I know I work in B-med (its the nice way of saying the lock-down inpatient psych unit) but really its been getting crazy. Sure you have the occasional fight or come home with some bumps and bruises. The first time I met Brad's extended family I had a huge bite mark on my arm. But for the most part it has been a good job. Not only have we been extreamly short staffed but on Friday night anf into Saturday morning I spent a majority of my shift in the ER thanks to a patient.

Part of my job is to search everything brought on to our unit. Patients and their belongings are included in this. So our poor day staff had been extreamly short staffed and running around like crazy. They managed to search our two new patients but had not had anytime to search through the belongings that they had brought with them. So part way through my shift I had a ten minute window and decided to search through the bags. One of my co-workers said he could do it but I insisted on helping. Now here was the first mistake- I really insisted. I mean we argued it for a bit before agreeing that I would search the female's bags and he could do the males. Its not really that we fight for this privilege because no one really likes searching through a random person's personal belongings. However recently with our oh so wonderful
-I wish you could hear the sarcasm-
boss has been marking us down for all sorts of wonderful things that she feels are a problem. Some of the newest have been not being professional, and keeping a safe environment, .....okay none of these are really an issue on our unit she just "feels" they are or she likes her new found power.
We are actually very successful in both of these areas...
Anyway we were jokingly arguing about how much we wanted to complete this task in a professional manner so we can create a safe environment. Well I sort through the first huge (like a bag as big as me) bag and chart eveything that was found. Then I move onto this patients little purse, I pull out a tank top, a makeup bag and then Slice.
I thought I paper cut myself on something in her purse...gross. Well with my meds I bleed a lot so i went to the sink to get a paper towel and put pressure on it. The only problem is it won't stop bleeding. The nurse I was working with notices this somewhat alarming amount of blood and comes to help. After rinsing it we realize my finger is actually cut quite deeply. I headed off to the ER, one benefit of working in the hospital is that the ER is just a few floors away haha. On my way one of my coworkers calls me to inform me that they found what I cut my finger on...a broken razor....this makes my gross cut even grosser (not a word but still very fitting).
ER promised to rush me through because due to the fact that we are running on low staff there is no one to cover me and they need me back at work ASAP. So my fast track ER visit took 2 1/2 hrs....hmmm not very fast but what can you do. I felt bad for the volunteers in the waiting room who kept bringing me more and more guaze unitl finally they brought me a chuck. (a sheet that absorbs moisture.) I think they brought me into the back rooms so quickly because the poor kids in the waiting area were just staring. The DR was hilarious and just cheerfully said
"oh you really hot-dogged your finger. Well lets numb ya up and stitch ya up."
Hot-dogged hahaha really? I guess if you could see how it was sliced
it makes sense it was just a funny way of putting it.

The only part that is still a bit funny is that it is my middle finger so for the next couple of weeks I'm going to walk around looking like I'm giving people the finger. So if you see me I promise its nothing personal :-)

we took pictures to document the injury so I'm thinking I should just blow up a picture of the  "hot-dogged" finger and use it for
                                       HALLOWEEN
                                                                             ...any thoughts?

So after all of this fun and maybe a bit too much blood loss, I ended up back at work and told to take tylanol until I my shift was over.
Anyone know of any places that are hiring?

Catch up with some engagement pictures

One Month

We've been married for one month :-) We celebrated on Monday by going out for coconut shrimp-one of the best things ever. We are basically moved in and unpacked we are just still working on setting up a few small things. It's amazing how many things get added to your to-do list that you never thought of before. On Friday we are going on a vacation with the Tuttle family. I can't wait! No work, No School, just fun in the sun. We have one night that we are staying in Atlanta. The group we are going with had a tour available but leave it to Brad to discover that there is a coke museum haha so we will be doing that our first night. 7 ft coke bear....what more could you want right? On Saturday we are driving to the BYU vs Florida State game. Then it's off on a crusie! Could it get any better than that? I think not. Only 2 more days of school and 2 nights of work and then 10 days of fun! I am sad because my brother's farewell is on the same day that we come back but we will miss it :-( I know he wil do amazing and I am so proud of the decisions he is making. Ben is such a wonderful example to me and my family. I'll just have to make up for it by sending a few extra packages along the way haha

Just Married

So we were married on Friday August 13th. Yes we know it was a Friday the 13th we don't feel that it is bad luck because we had our first date on a Friday the 13th. No we are not huge twilight fans. Apparently the main characters were married on the same day....long story short we were asked a lot about it during our engagement haha. The wedding was amazing. It's crazy how much time goes into planning and how quickly it goes by but the wedding day was perfect. I loved the flowers, the dresses, the food, the cake, the dancing, the getaway car...everything! I was so happy that so many members of my family were able to come from all over the country. We had such an incredible time celebrating with so many of our family and friends. So far married life is great. We moved into an apartment in Lindon that I love. The time off of work and school was so much fun. Now its back to reality. We both started school and work again but being married is still a blast!
